And… Fold. Fold. Fold.

For our next creative venture, we’ve got “Origami”. You must have heard of it at least once and if you haven’t, it is the art of folding paper to transform flat sheets of paper into some wonderful decorative model or sculpture.

It is often associated with Japanese culture, and the very word origami comes from the words ori meaning “folding” and kami meaning “paper”, so it basically means ‘to fold paper’.

The origin of the artform is not exactly known although we believe it has it’s roots of origin in Japan and China and has then spread across other countries like Europe.

The art of origami involves folding paper in a variety of ways using some fundamental folding techniques to create intricate designs. Paper is the only material needed in its most basic form, though other types of paper, such as colored paper or paper with prints or patterns, can be used to create items that are more attractive and decorative.

The techniques involve simple folds that are to be followed in successive steps to ultimately create the desired model. There are all sorts of lovely models that we can make out of paper and these include animals, birds, flowers and other intriguing figures. You could really make some fancy stuff.

I do plan to pick some of the good ones to make (and learn along the way) and then share it with you all so get your papers ready and stay tuned for those!

And Happy Folding!
